As it scary as it sounds, i don’t know whether i should be thankful or feel a little bit weird to Dr. Sonette Ehlers’s invention; the “Rape-Axe” an anti-rape female condom, maybe because the device is new and people still not very familiar with it.
I mean as a woman i’d be glad if there is such a device that can prevent rapist to rape women, but i still curious about the use of this condom and the side effects. Well, okay maybe it’s not a perfect device yet, but honestly, the first time i read news about her invention, her purpose and the concept is a brilliant idea.

The device is a latex sheath embedded with shafts of sharp, inward-facing microscopic barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker were to attempt vaginal rape, their penis would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing the attacker pain during withdrawal and (ideally) giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain attached to the attacker’s body when he withdrew and could only be removed surgically, which would alert hospital staff and police. This device could assist in the identification and prosecution of rapists.

The reason why Ehlers invented the device is because she remembers the eyes of a 20 year old rape victim she met at a hospital in the Northern Cape of South Africa. Her eyes were “totally dead,” she said. But what Ehlers remembers most are the victim’s words: “If I only had teeth down there.”
“I consulted engineers, gynecologists and psychologists to help in the design and make sure it was safe. After the trial period, they’ll be available for about $2 a piece. I hope the women will report back to me. The ideal situation would be for a woman to wear this when she’s going out on some kind of blind date or to an area she’s not comfortable with”.
Do you know that according to a new study woman who acts flirtatiously is partially or completely to blame for being raped. More than a quarter also believe a woman is at least partly responsible for being raped if she wears sexy or revealing clothing, or is drunk. And One in five think a woman is partly to blame if it is known she has many sexual partners, while more than a third believe she is responsible to some degree if she has clearly failed to say “no” to the man.
Woman get raped not just because has a killer bods and beautiful? hmmm… pretty scary eh? Cuz on second thought there, i don’t think i need this device to protect me
